Senior adults have an important role to play in connecting with children and teens in the community. It is through relationships with caring adults that young people build the strengths, skills and resilience they need to become caring, healthy adults.

It's easy! Connect with Kids. You can make a difference!

  • Connect with a child in your neighborhood. Read books together, tell stories and sing songs from your generation.
  • Volunteer at a homeless shelter. You can read, help with homework or just play games with the children. To learn more about this and other volunteer opportunities in Arlington log on to the Arlington Volunteer Office web site at www.volunteersolutions.org/acvo/volunteer/.
  • Organize and join in neighborhood social activities - gather neighbors of all ages to work on a project or just have fun.
  • Make time to listen and talk to youth - they'll learn a lot and you will too!
  • Send greeting cards or postcards to neighborhood children or your nieces, nephews or grandchildren.
  • Wave and smile at children in school busses, or at children in the car next to you at the light.
